Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends or even PlayerUnknownBattlegrounds (PUBG), most PC enthusiasts consider themselves a class apart from console gamers. The versatility of PC gaming hardware means that gamers have the ability to control and choose to update the specs of their gaming rig whereas console players are forced to shell out a big wad of cold hard cash just to stay current with the latest version of their beloved console. Gaming peripherals such as gaming mouse and keyboards are as important to the success of the player as those gaming skills.
If you’re looking to upgrade your gaming rig, a good gaming mouse is absolutely the first place that you should start. Depending on the type of game that you’ve decided to take on, there’s a gaming mouse for you – MMOPRG, FPS, RTS we’ve got you covered with this review. The perfect gaming mouse is purpose built to enhance your playing skills just to give you that little edge over your opponents or bots and take home that chicken dinner or flappy arm dance routine.
Here’s an updated list of the top gaming mice currently on the market as of April 2019.
Best gaming mouse of 2019
Every MOBA/ MMORPG player’s wet dream.
Jumping straight into the capabilities of this gaming mouse, an ultra accurate 16000 dpi gaming grade tracking optical sensor and 12 mechanical side tactical buttons, the grip, tracking and feel of this gaming mouse is the best on the list. This mouse works best for MMO games because of the 12 customizable thumb action buttons present on the right side of the Corsair Scmitar Pro gaming mouse.
Yes you read that right, 12 thumb customizable tactical buttons in addition to the other 5 buttons bring the total button count to an impressive 17 mouse buttons. The 12 thumb action button is also movable and can be slid up and down the side of the mouse to adjust it according to the size of your palm. What this means is that you can bring up that sniper scope or cast that spell that much faster. The large floating scroll wheel positioned squat in the centre of the mouse that makes it almost reminiscent of the batmobile from the Dark Knight trilogy.
Weighing in at 147g, this mouse is a rugged but the smooth lines and ergonomics make it very comfortable in the hand. Though the body of this gaming mouse is made of plastic, it has a smooth touch finish which makes the mouse look premium and feel grippy. Something to note here is that the mouse is wired and cannot be detached. The wire consists of a braided surface with a tough kevlar like plastic coating.
Overall, a fantastic mouse if customizable action buttons and long gaming sessions are at the top of your list.
- Perfect for MOBA/ MMORPG games
- Accurate tracking
- 12 customizable thumb buttons
- Ultra accurate 16000 dpi optical sensor
- The weight and size of this mouse might be too large or heavy for small hands
- The wire is non detachable
An upgrade to the old favorite?
The Logitech G900 is synonymous with the wireless gaming mice scene since it’s debut a few years ago. The lightspeed wireless technology gave the G900 a zero latency even over a crowded WiFi and bluetooth network. The G903 aims to improve on the massively popular G900 by the addition of wireless inductive charging and slotted weights.
Just when you thought the G900 couldn’t get any better?
The design language of the mouse pays homage to its predecessor with some minor updates to give it a future proof design. The infinite scrolling wheel can be very beneficial when making a quick in-game selection or even for video editing. At just 110g, this mouse is light and nifty even after the addition of slotted weights. The 8 buttons are placed exactly where you would expect them to be placed and bring a familiar feel to this gaming mouse. Something that is worth mentioning here is that this mouse is a very well designed product – meaning that you will be comfortable using it across all game genres – RPG, FPS and RTS without any issues.
Great product but the new features do not justify the increased price tag.
- Zero latency tracking over wireless network
- Wireless charging capability
- Ambidextrous customizable buttons placement
- Slotted weights allows you to customize mouse weight
- Not much of an upgrade over the G900
- Front heavy – uncomfortable while playing FPS for extended periods of time
Packed with features
The SteelSeries Rival 710 is a sleek mouse that has a number of unique features that definitely makes it stand out among other gaming mice in the market. Swappable parts for customization, split trigger switches, tactile alerts and even an OLED screen for display of anything from your team colors to game statistics.
The mouse itself has a great design and fits comfortably in the hand. The top of the mouse is curved – almost rounded in shape and ensures that the palm fits comfortably around the mouse. This design feature allows the mouse to be used for extended periods of time without strain to the palm. The scroll wheel gives a satisfactory click and is smooth to use in game. But the best feature of this mouse that makes it stand out is the tactile feedback that allows the mouse to alert players. This feature is reminiscent of console controllers and has the capability to be a gamechanger in the gaming mouse industry. If used correctly, the vibrating feedback feature could be configured to provide the players with inputs or alerts that would otherwise need to take up valuable screen space.
The seven buttons on the mouse are well placed and cover all major actions that are required for most games. They are clicky and give a good response on being clicked.
The next feature that makes the mouse stand out amongst the competition is the OLED screen that is placed on the side of the mouse. Some argue that the screen is rather gimmicky and doesn’t really serve a purpose. Again, this is a feature that is new to the industry and most gamers and gaming industries are only experimenting with applications of this new functionality. For now, it seems like you will have to be content with seeing your team colors, logos or health percentage but what you use the screen for is really only limited by your resourcefulness and creativity.
Overall, the SteelSeries Rival 710 is a great product. We see that the mouse is pushing the envelope when it comes to features but as a standalone gaming mouse and even though the effectiveness of some of the features are debatable, the product is still a stellar offering.
- Tactile feedback alerts
- OLED screen
- Great ergonomics
- Customizable swappable parts
- Wired mouse with non detachable wire

The Republic Of Gamers is Asus’ sub brand that has a whole line up of products designed and built with only one thing in mind – gaming. Therefore, you know that any product from the ROG brand is a thoroughbred.
The ROG Pugio is a lightweight ambidextrous gaming mouse. At just 103 grams, this mouse is a result of the simplistic design principles that ROG has put forth while designing this gaming mouse. It has a great gaming grade optical sensor with 7200 dpi. Aesthetically, the mouse is smooth, sleek and the bright LEDs really stand out from the other gaming mice. The panels are swappable and can be interchanged, thus making the mouse ambidextrous. An additional bonus is that since the mouse is an ROG product, it will have no issues syncing with other ROG products such as ROG keyboards and other peripherals. So if you’re choose to pledge your allegiance to the ROG lineup, then there’s no question that this is the mouse for you.
Something that has to be given focus with this gaming mouse is the presence of the line of LEDs that are so bright that they outshine other gaming mice on this list. The clean lines on this gaming mouse don’t only serve to look great but also make this mouse very ergonomic. You will have no problem using this mouse for extended periods of time.

- Design aesthetics
- Swappable side panels – ambidextrous
- Comfortable and grippy
- Super bright LEDs
- The absence of dedicated buttons make this mouse geared towards casual players
- The mouse is wired and cannot be detached
- Small(ish) scroll wheel
Beast of a mouse
Razer is so well known in the market for gaming mice that it is touted by many to be the market leader. With a massive army of fans and ambassadors, it’s no surprise how high the Razer Mamba Elite ranks among gaming circles.
Apart from looking like a stealthy machine of war, the Mamba elite also packs some some serious technology with the hybrid on-board memory and cloud storage. This means that all mouse settings – including button settings and even chroma colours that you setup for the mouse will be remembered whatever PC you choose to use. This makes this gaming mouse especially handy if you’re taking this to tournaments.
Ironically, Razer also has a tournament edition of the Mamba that is wireless and is a toned down version of the Mamba Elite minus the rich LED experience (battery saving measure perhaps?) and some improvements on the internals that leave the leave the Mamba tournament at just 106 grams. If wired gaming mice are not your jam but you still love everything else about the Razer Mamba, then you should check out the Razer Mamba Tournament edition.
The Razer Mamba Elite is a medium sized svelte matte black gaming mouse with some great controls for button and LED customization. At just 96 grams, with curved sides and back edges, this gaming mouse is comfortable to grip for long gaming sessions and is very lightweight. With 9 hyper sensitive buttons along with the tilt click feature of the scroll wheel, 16.9 million LED color choices bundled with the Synapse – 3 software, button and LED customization is a breeze.
As with most Razer products, the company places a large emphasis on the personalization of the product. They want you to be able to customize the gaming mouse so it feels like something that is uniquely yours. It is clearly visible that their efforts come through with this product.
Well rounded product offering that reflects its gaming lineage.
- Hybrid on-board memory and cloud storage
- Simple button and LED customization options
- Great mouse ergonomics supports all player grip type.
- Right handed device
- The seven foot wire cannot be detached from the mouse and sometimes gets in the way of your gaming rig
Bang for your buck
The BenQ Zowie FK2 is a low profile, ambidextrous, medium sized gaming mouse, most suited to fingertip and claw grip players. At just 85 grams, the mouse is light and surprisingly well balanced. With a narrow profile and few customizable buttons, this mouse is best suited to playing FPS games. The best feature of this gaming mouse is its simplicity with no additional drivers or software required to use the mouse. This simplicity also extends to the minimalist design with basic design language and it’s the only mouse on the list with no LEDs.
One of the best features of this mouse is its ergonomic design The buttons on this gaming mouse are rigid and require a firm action from the user in order to register a click, ensuring that there are no accidental clicks. But this also means that the mouse tends to get uncomfortable while playing for longer durations due to finger fatigue.
Overall, it could be a great mouse for novice gamers especially if you play a lot of FPS games.
- Driverless – plug & play
- Ergonomic design
- Optimized for FPS games
- Rigid buttons can cause finger fatigue
- Slippery coating – caution for people with sweaty hands
- Uncomfortable when playing for extended durations.
- Noisy click wheel and clicks
